Winnebago 24m

Hi all,
I'm interested in a Winnebago 24M sprinter. It has most everything we are looking for, but I have one concern, the full wall slide.
Because of the sprinter being a small vehicle, I'm concerned about the weight and relative size of that slide. Does anyone have any experience or comments that might belay my fears of the thing malfunctioning or jamming due to size? I look at that slide extended and think how many people could sit on the sofa inside before the slide just falls out..lol. Although I doubt that would actually happen I wonder just how secure it really is....
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Steve
  • We have the View 24H with one slide and have had no problems whatsoever.
  • Thanks. Just wondering. I guess if there was any extraordinary problems with those slides, I would be seeing remarks on this forum...
  • The only issue with the full-wall slide is with the earlier Sunrise models. 20+ feet was too long and heavy for initial design. Middle portion sagged and broke bolts causing an issuing when opening and closing. All fixed now in newer designs.Old design must be adjusted once a year to be trouble free.
  • When I looked at Sprinter based Class C's a few years ago:
Slides add about 500 lbs weight.
CCC Cargo Carrying Capacity after occupants, fuel etc. was only 300 lbs; insufficient for my needs.

CCC rating has been replaced with OCCC, check this Carefully on any Sprinter based Class C (or Ford based over 30 ft).

    OCCC

    New Weight Label
  • I am a member of the largest internet View/Navion owners group, and I've not read of anyone having issues.

Winnebago has been around for a while. They know what they are doing......
  • Thank all of you for your comments. Now we can go hunting for a 24M.....
  • Steve,

I wonder if you could request the 24M with the same floor plan, but simply delete the slide out. It might...

    - save you money
    - offer a more solid over-all house
    - easier access to outdoor storage

Does Winnebago offer such deviations if special ordering?
  • Interesting question Ron. I wonder..
I have since talked with owners of slides on sprinters, and I'm not hearing anything that would dissuade me from going ahead with a 24M.
I am in no hurry, so looking for one that is priced right will be an adventure I think I'm going to enjoy...

Winnebago will do custom stuff but due to it not being a production standard may not be financially viable. I met a guy in a campground that had a wheelchair lift installed in a class A by WGO when they built it. LINK

OCCC on mine (it has a slide) is 1500. They vary by year and configuration of course.
