- paulsangExplorerTotally getting on board with this! I already can food. This would be perfect when I have nothing to can!

I've been roasting beans on my bbq using a drum nd rotisserie for about a year now. You can't beat the quality or cost of doing it yourself, and it's not a big job. Be aware however that contrary to what you might imagine, the smell of roasting the beans smells not at all like coffee. It is only after that you've roasted the beans and they cool that you start to get that typical roasted coffee smell. During the roasting it frankly smells pretty bad and generatesbquite a bit of smoke depending on the quantity of beans and the darkness of the roast.
Great info. Can you post a picture of your setup? How do you know when you have the right level of roast, a timer? - phemensExplorerI've been roasting beans on my bbq using a drum nd rotisserie for about a year now. - rockhillmanorExplorerI bet the smell of those coffee beans roasting is out of this world. You just might end up with the whole CG coming down to get a cup of it when you were done!

Thanks for the post. Looks interesting. I will try it for home use. ... Spending 15 min to get even better tasting coffee (hopefully) doesn't sound bad at all, and the process sounds kinda fun too, add that to (potentially) better tasting coffee, and it's a win-win!
For those who are into making their own for better quality control I think it's worth a try. It certainly will be a conversation starter at the campground. - cabertoExplorerThanks for the post. Looks interesting. I will try it for home use. I hate Starbucks coffee and always order my beans online anyway. - rockhillmanorExplorerI don't care how back to basics one wants to get camping......picking green coffee beans and then roasting them and then have to grind them to make coffee??? Sorry don't care how manly that is I stop at Dunkin Donuts on the day before departure and buy a bag of coffee already ground for the camping trip!
I'll be the one here in the morning.
Not slaving over a camp fire for a cup of it! :B:B
