Replacement for very old unusable Crock Pot

Our crock has too many cracks in the glazing and you can see the liquid from meals along the bigger lines. The DW bought a small Crock Pot and it is narrow and deep and neither of us like it. We only need a four quart pot at most and something a little shallower. We've always had Crock Pots, are other brands just as good. Any suggestions. We have a Baby Crock in the RV but sometimes we need a larger one, a two temp is okay.
  • My kids got me This one after mine Quit,I like the size and the different cook times also the keep warm setting. It works for me to cook smaller meals

I also started using These Liners on my old one when it was in the condition as your old one.
You just pull them out throw them away, and no washing.....

The cheapest place to buy them is Walmart, 1/2 the price as what it shows on the site I put up.
  • We replaced our 30 year old Sunbeam when it died with a smaller one that has just a low and high setting. Not good. After a couple of hours it is boiling the liquid when set on low, and isn't actually slow cooking. I will be looking for another replacement soon.

On Edit: Mine was the oblong West Bend like Jim Shoe has a link too. Loved that thing and had used it since 1972. Some good things are still around. Thanks Jim - I'll be ordering one again. Didn't think they would still be around.
  • I have this West Bend. The best part is the Teflon lined metal container. I've tossed more than one ceramic slow cooker after they developed cracks.
  • I have heard that the new crockpots "low setting" is much hotter than the old ones to allow for shorter cooking times. However, I cannot find this published anywhere, but have heard from many people that the low setting seems to boil quickly now.
  • I'd go garage sale shopping for an older crock. I have 4 pots including a 1 1/2 size that I really like. The others are newer and like someone said on low they are too hot and food/soups burn.
  • This is the one we have. http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-33967-6-Quart-Programmable/dp/B001AO2PXK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_k_26
Bought it about 3yrs ago and use it regular. Very pleased with it.
Also, the slow cooker liners are the trick if you ask me. Love them!
  • If you are interested in something that works as more than just a slow cooker, I like my Nesco 4qt roaster oven. It gives me complete control of my temps. I like to stick a whole chicken at the highest temp. to get some color, then turn it down to roast it according to when I need it to be done.

They no longer make the 4qt., but have replaced it with a 5.

It is very versatile for the camper. I have used it to do everything from oats to pizza. Soups and stews work out great for slow cooking or I can crank up the heat to get things done more quickly. I have an 18 qt. I leave at home.

We've got the same Crock Pot and it works fine. We started using the liners too which makes clean up much easier.

It is, but the reason I've heard is the old liability angle. The old original recipes called for 8 hours on most recipes and they could run up to 12 hours without harm. Today CP's will overcook in 6 if you aren't careful.
