Adobe Flash player

My adobe flash player quit working, went to adobe web site to down load a newer version. Download starts gets about 80%, but then quits and I get a message that Internet Explorer has to be closed first. Problem is when I go to Task Manager, Internet Explorer is not running. I Have tried several times and I get the same message. It will not finish downloading
  • In Task Manager look under 'Processes' not just 'Applications'
  • A different browser is not an option. My wife has Parkinson's disease, and changing to a new system would just confuse her. Her days are difficult enough without adding something new to the mix.

You were on the internet (I.E.) in order to get to the Flash player site. When the window opens for the flash player down-load, if two windows show on the second bar from top of screen, close the one on far left by clicking "x" on right of block.

The only window left should be the Flash player download window so now start the down-load.

I'm sorry that your wife has Parkinson's - I've said a prayer for her.

You could load a better browser to use for the Flash update, then remove it when you're done. Your wife would never know that the other browser had been on your machine for a short period of time. Note that the flash update may tell you to quit the new/different browser too, but all you should have to do is quit the browser, and let the update finish.

You can have more than one Browser. Just use Chrome to do these updates if that works. But to me it sounds like you have bigger issues perhaps IE has been hijacked or there is Malware present.
  • One question not asked is how old is your wife's computer? What version is your current I.E.? You should be on I.E. 11.

Older systems such as XP, or older do not work on the latest I.E. versions so many people still have an older version installed.

Because of the hacking vulnerabilities of some Java, Adobe Flash, etc., programs many sites will no longer allow older versions to be used on them. If you can't fix the problem with methods recommended, your computer may have been hacked, and needs that problem fixed first.
  • THANK YOU, for your help. What I ended up doing was hitting save instead of install. I then closed everything out, did a search for adobe flash then installed it from there. BTW I am running Vista, I can't run Google Chrome, ever since the last Windows security update, Google Chrome quit working and I can't reinstall it either.
