Audiovox stereo replacement search

The volume control on my 17 year old audiovox AWM 820 has become erratic, so I'm searching for a new unit. I sometimes feed it with an XM receiver plugged to aux audio in. I also use it to transmit XM or other source music to a portable sound system using a Bluetooth dongle, so I need a front audio out for that. (currently using the headphone jack). It would seem logical that stereos would have Bluetooth transmitters to support wireless speakers but none seem to be available, at least in the RV wall mount size. Do any of you have an rv stereo with Bluetooth out ability?
  • RV mount? Never heard of that. More than likely it is a single din car stereo. Go to Crutchfield.com and look around. Not the cheapest place, but really good for basic research.
  • Actually, I think it is double din (which is not important), but it can't be over 5 1/2 inches deep to fit. Most car stereo listings just ask the vehicle model to determine fit as many have much more under dash room. It was rv wall mount. Wireless connectivity from the stereo to speakers or Bluetooth is my search.
  • you will not find one that transmits by Bluetooth to Bluetooth speakers they only receive Bluetooth from other devices. never have seen one that does. you will have to use a Bluetooth transmitter like you do now they can be used with the the rca preamp jack outputs from the back of the stereo. sounds like you would need an adapter from rca to a headphone jack cable to use yours. you could extend it out next to the front of the stereo.
  • Thanks. That has been my conclusion too. Of course the problem is that the back of the unit is not accessible on a wall unit and plugging into an aux output often kill signals to the speakers. If so I would have to plug and unplug when switching, and that wouldn't work. There are some units with a front aux out and an input jack. I will have to settle for one of those. To me it seems so logical that there would be units that could send a wireless signal to speakers or whatever. Just like the phone or tablet. Thanks all.
  • I put a BOSS am/fm/cd player with a slide out big screen on it. Also has bluetooth capabilities.
  • plugging into the auxiliary outputs on a rv stereo or a car stereo will not kill the speaker output. they are there to add amplifiers to the stereo many people use the head unit amps for speakers and add a subwoofer amplifier to the rca outputs. if it has a headphone output jack that will shutdown the speakers. most rv stereos have separate speaker switches some of them have 3 speaker switches. a add on speaker switch can be installed on any stereo.
  • Good point. I had become accustomed to dealing with a headphone jack vs a true aux out. I will make it work. Thanks.
  • I had one of these units and replace it with one from Furrion. It is the 1200 model, I also got the matching sub woofer. I am very happy with the system.
