Brother HL2270DW Dead After 3 Yrs

I took the printer in from the RV, where it was working fine (on AC). Plugged it in at the house and no lights, no nothing. Tried different AC outlets, different printer cord, etc --- nothing.

I have used it moderately for 3 years. Is that about the life for a cheap laser printer? All I can think of is to buy a new printer, for about $130. I'm sure working on the old one would cost almost that much. Do you agree? Thanks.
  • Been there, got the tee shirt and will not go any further on the subject because of the risk of incriminating myself. The most important lessons learned over the years is 'move on don't say a word'. Smile & take your lumps from those that know about it. Because...their day will come too!

    ps...

I have used that technique before to flush out breaker / power issues.

Well, that's the reward they get for always taking the blame, when blame gets assigned.

Hey, at least it isn't as embarrassing as what happened to a bud of mine, who spent 2 hours on the helpline, elevated to 2nd tier support before they discovered that the power cord was not plugged fully into the printer. He's still living that one down.
  • Forget it, total embarrassment, the printer is OK. The computer is a laptop and I thought the circuits were live in that room because the computer, speakers, etc all lit up (from the battery, of course, but I thought from the AC circuit). I went to another room and found some lights dead, checked the breakers, and one had kicked. That solved the problem.

My wife put her finger on it before I did. Probably should check with the grandkids before using anything more technical than a hammer, I guess. BLEEAUGH!!
  • Is the power supply fused? Is it blown? Possible power surge fried the power supply but as you stated it will probably cost as much to find out and repair (if parts are still available) as it would to buy a new one. Good luck.
