Coaxial cable replacement question

I own a 2006 36' Tour and would like to run some new coaxial cable from my bat-wing to the control box in the cabinet above the windshield passenger side. Is it an easy pull through? Is it a straight shot? Who has done it and did you encounter any problems?

Thanks!
  • With some specialized tools you can run new ones and abandon the old ones but most people don't have monster rare earth magnet tools to pull tag lines with .. It often takes some experimenting with fish tools to get new cables in. I have cut holes inside cabinets to gain access for some cables. Sometimes you do not have a choice.

I have a monster magnet that looks like a narrow paint roller. A small chain or other small rare earth magnet is inserted into the hole and the paint roller device pulls the small chain or plumb bob device along the inside of the roof/wall/ or under carpet.

There is a very good chance that it is two cables with a feed through (Also known as a bulkhead connector) at the roof line.. In short, you may not need to pull anything through.

That said.. Not all are done that way.

The cable inside the wall never gets the UV from the sun and thus lasts a long, long time compared to the outside one.

That said: Helped one couple in a trailer with a TV reception problem. We narrowed it down (We thought) to the in-wall cable.

Turns out it was the Bulkhead connector.

Either way.. i'm not tearing apart your RV... I let dealers do that.
  • Fat chance and they probably tied it to some other wires.

That said. Get a helper to tug and pull from each end to see if it is loose. You can sometimes drop speakers or lights out for access. If the coax is loose solder the new one center connectors together and some of the braid if possible. Make it as smooth and close to the diameter as the original coax as possible. Then gently push on your end and have someone pull.
  • You would likely not be able to use any of the existing holes or use the wires as a pull as they are all tied into the factory wiring harness. They means either trying to find a way to pull down a part of the ceiling to access the current hole or you are going to need to drill a new hole and reroute the coax.
