Convection vs Standard oven

I am looking at buying a used Class C motorhome after selling my Class A Gasser. My wife wants one with an oven, but half of the ones we looked at only have the microwave/convection oven. Any insights or experiences with the convection type? The only thing I could see is that the regular oven can use propane and the convection takes electric. That might be a problem when dry camping.

My experience with RV propane ovens has been less than happy. Temp regulation was awful plus if you camp in hot temps the heat generated will really tax the a/c. We converted the propane cooktop in our new unit to a Nuwave two burner induction. I also have a portable NuWave induction to cook messy stuff outside. We use the microwave/convection oven plus a toaster oven with convection. If you have a generator or us campground power then there is no problem. We don't bake bread, eat pizza or pastries. If we want ribs or other items that require broiling or baking we cook ahead of time and freeze.

We rarely use the oven at our home base relying almost exclusively on convection microwave and toaster/convection oven.

We enjoy our convection ovens both at home and on the road while RVing. No issues while boondocking, just gives me a reason to exercise our onboard Onan or give our portable Champion inverter a nice workout, all the while enabling our Iota IQ4 to give our battery bank a nice boost.

Never an issue fitting a whole pizza, a couple of whole chickens, or a family size roast whether pork or beef, and the results are so much better once you figure out the many functions. Convection micro in our rig also cooks faster utilizing both microwave and convection features for outstanding results.

When our current rig only came with a convection microwave we were somewhat dismayed as well. When we actually took the time to read the owners manual the results were better across the board, there is a minor learning curve involved, definitely worth the time in our opinion.

WE use the oven every trip and really would be lost without it...

Our 5er has both a standard oven and a microwave/convection oven. We more often use the convection oven to bake rather than the standard oven.

my first two Class As had the standard gas oven. was great for storing bread, noisy to store pots/pans etc. when I ordered my third A I got the storage drawers instead, along with a convection MW.

Yeah, a big one.

yup. and size. we canโ€™t warm up a pizza in our convection oven without taking the pizza apart. but on the plus side we reclaim much appreciated kitchen storage.
