I am having issues with signal loss 771, all 3 sats 101, 110, 119 are on target no wind but having signal issues and this has occurred in 3 different locations. It's a HD roof mount Winegard triple LNB with SWM. I have replaced the cable between SWM and receiver HR54-200. Any ideas?

I believe you need to maintain your current SL5 LNB unless you replace is with a SWM 5 (not 3) LNB but you would then need to remove the your current SWM8 setup. As long as the new SWM8 switch resolved your problem you should not need to make any further modifications. If you need to replace the LNB, replace it with the same non-SWM 5 LNB like you have now. The Winegard controller in the older SK-3005 uses the 110/119 LNB's to locate the satellites. There is no update path other than replacement with the SK-SWM3. It is an easy replacement should that be necessary as you leave the current mount on the roof, remove the old, install the new and hook the wires back up. You would also remove/bypass the SWM8 switch. Replace the controller inside and you are all done. No new wiring, drilling or caulk.

The sl3 with the power inserter has always worked for me, but I'm just not familiar enough with your setup to know what you need.

Should I be on SL3 LNB or SL5 LNB

He is referring to the SWM8 switch that had to be added to the older SK-3005 (or any standard 5 LNB home antenna) to make it work with SWM.

We used to have a satellite expert on here but he's gone. Too bad.

Anyway, what is a SWM box, and what's it doing on the roof? The only box I'm familiar with is a power inserter, and it definitely should not be exposed.

I'm not sure DTV keeps up with their updates like they should. One of my HD receivers has shown the 119 for at least a year, and my Quick tune display wouldn't show any icons for at least that amount of time. It does now.

I am not getting the sats that direct says I should get, I'm getting 101, 110, 119 how do I get 99, 101, 103 that Direct wants?

The SK-3005 should not need an update. An update would be a completely new antenna. The 3005 will work just fine going forward.

The Direct tv guy just left and the SWM box on the roof was defective, I also need an update to my Winegard system.

Has this ever worked properly? In addition to the SWM power inserter, do you have the SWM8 switch as well? Assuming you do, that could have gone bad or one of the connections may be loose/corroded. It could also be the LNB itself going bad. That's a fairly old antenna so all connections should be checked, all outside coax connections should be shiny clean. Hopefully some dielectric grease is in all F connectors.

What model # and how old is your Winegard. The Winegard box with SWM should be showing 99*, 101*, 103* You might have the original Trav'ler which was actually a 5 LNB setup (3 "eyes" but one of those contains 3 LNB's for 99, 101 and 103. To make it SWM you had to add the SWM8 kit (silver box with like 10-11 ports) and a PI29 power supply. That antenna would have been the SK-3005 and not the current SK-SWM3 which only have a single "eye" housing the 99, 101 and 103 LNB's.
Has this setup ever worked with the current receiver and what receiver are you using? Also be sure to go to a channel you know you should receive like FOOD at 231. You may be away from home and still trying to pick up local channels like 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, etc. which you cannot once you are out of range.
Let us know a bit more and let's see who can help.

The receiver is an HR 54-200 and the Sat is Winegard SK 3005 Travlr Slimline and Directv instaleed a SWM power inserter kit. I am now in a location so I ca get on the roof.

Verify power going to dish. Do you hear it moving to search for sats?

I'm giving the Sat numbers off of the Wingard control box, when I got this receiver the Direct guy installed it for me and its been working great up until this trip for over 3 years. I have been in Mesquite, NV; Washington, UT and Now Ely, NV and it gets worse each time. I need to go up on the roof when I get a better ladder.

Ok, first off, shouldn't you be getting 99,101 and 103? That's what I get on the west with a portable Directv tripod dish, HD, SWM. I thought SWM meant just a single lnb.
