DIRECTV receiver with neighbors satellite dish?

I have a friend who has his rv on a permanent site which is covered in trees. Does not have a chance of setting up his dish. However, his neighbor has a directv slimline HD dish already in place and using it.

Can he bring his receiver from home and hook on to neighbors dish?
He does have Directv at home and has had it for years.

He has had cable at rv site but has jumped to $80 monthly.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

If both receivers are SWM capable (almost all are), it's still easy. Connect to a splitter instead of the dish.

  • That will work perfectly fine as long as there is an available port on the satellite dish or the Dish's switch. Hook it up and run with it.
  • There should be no issues using another dish with his receiver. It would be the same as me taking a receiver from my home and connecting it to my portable dish. The receive does not know who owns the dish.
