Dish Network - Gaps in Service

I will not be using my Dish Pay-as-you-go service for the next few months but cannot find any information on their website about suspending the account. Has anyone done this? If so, what was the process? I'm trying to do it without cancelling my account.

Thanks,

Bill
  • I cancel it every time because if you suspend it they charge you 6 or 7 dollars a month.
  • Yes, cancelling is the best way to do it. "Suspending" will cost you that six bucks a month for absolutely nothing.

You can cancel your service easily by simply not paying your bill. In fact, Dish CS now recommends that. You WILL get a notice or two saying your account is overdue but when you call them they say don't worry, we always do that.

If you cancel by not paying your bill you must wait at least one billing cycle (30 days) to restart your service, or else your first payment will be retroactively applied to the time you were cancelled (for non-payment).

You can also call them and insist that you want to cancel right now, today. They're going to try and talk you out of this but eventually they will comply and any remaining credit balance on your account will be applied when you resart your service.

All in all, Dish CS seems to be cooperating more, I've found. PAYG works well for me because I only want sat service during the winter and summer months, for short periods. Otherwise if you know you're going to use the service continually the rates are better if you sign a contract.
  • You want to cancel/suspend your account for a few months at $6-$7 a month...which =$21 on the high side?

Not worth the hassle or worry...IMHO of course.
  • We are talking about the additional $6/mo fee aplied when "suspending" instead of "cancelling". Doing EITHER will stop the monthly service charges, typically $120/mo.

    Ah...thanks for the correction.

OP must be a full timer?

We pay between $60 and $70 a month
  • We have the pay as you go plan. I don't use auto pay. And, if we will not be using it next month, I simply do not pay and they cancel the service. When I want to restart it, I just call or chat, pay for the next month, and they restart it for another month. Per their web site.

How do I stop my service when I no longer need it?

.. If you only have Pay-As-You-Go programming, all you need to do is not pay your next invoice. This will automatically disconnect your services. However, if you have credit card auto pay on your account, you will need to contact DISH at 1-800-333-3474 to have this removed from your account before your services will be disconnected.
  • Thanks for the input. It just seemed strange to cancel the account and restart 4 months later.
