How to burn music onto a CD?

Would like to make up some CDs of some of my favorite songs for when I'm driving or to play in our camper. First, I have a collection of CDs that I want to choose favorites from. Some of my favorites are on the internet though, mostly on youtube but maybe from other sites too. Can music be downloaded these days or do I need I-tunes or some program to do it? Not illiterate but when it comes to this stuff, I sure am. ๐Ÿ˜ž

will your car play MP3 on a CD or even better a DVD?

Rip the CD at a minimum of 192. I prefer 320. Most people rip at 128 bit rate and the data loss drives me crazy.

On most Windows machines when you copy files to the CD to burn it will ask if you want to burn as a Music CD or as an MP3 (computer data).

The problem is that Windows may also respect digital copy protection.

(In the old days I had more ways around that than I can count but that is because I'd Digitally record my daughter playing and Windows would "Protect" it for me).

But I've not had any issues with the stuff I have tried to burn lately and this is a different (windows 10) computer. (Make that 8.1. Have not tried to burn a music CD under 10) There are many CD and DVD authoring programs on the net.

Thanks for the help. I had an older version of Windows that didn't seem to have the rip feature and I just downloaded Windows 10. Now I've got it working.

Another option I'd point out is an MP3 player. You can rip all the music you want to your computer then buy a cheap MP3 player and a male-male audio cable for under $50 and skip the CDs.

If you burn audio CDs, you are limited to 80 minutes of music per CD. A small capacity MP3 player will hold a ton of songs and you can listen to that all day long and never have a repeat song. Most modern cars and RV stereos have a 3mm jack to allow an input from external audio source.

first you need your music on the PC

the process of copying music from the CD to the PC is called "ripping"
this usually changes the format to MP3 (there are formats, but as a beginner, sticking with MP3 will make things simpler)

CD tracks are "wav" encoded

once you have copied/ripped the "tracks" (aka individual songs) you want onto the PC
you can pick and choose the ones to be burned onto a new CD disc

i mentioned the terms used, so you will know what they mean when you come across them, when reading about the various softwares and instructions
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

You can use Windows Media Player to do all of it.

For the CDs you already own, you will "rip" it to the computer. When WMP starts playing the CD, open up the full program by click on the icon at top right with the 3 boxes and left facing arrow. Then click "Rip CD" to start uploading the CD contents onto the computer.

For music on the internet, you'll need to download them to the computer. Technically, you are not supposed to download music posted to YouTube, etc. for copyright issues. There are free programs that will do it. You can purchase music from iTunes, Amazon, etc. and legally download them. Prices usually run $0.99 per song. Follow the instructions from wherever you purchase them or whatever software you use to download from websites.

Once the music is on your computer, you can burn your CDs. The easiest way is to create a playlist of your favorite music in WMP. Keep the final size of each playlist to within a CD's max capacity. Once you have your playlist(s) to your liking, click on "Burn" and drag one playlist name over to the "drag list here to create a burn list" - all the music from that playlist will be listed there. Then click "Start Burn". Let the program complete the process and eject the CD. Then you can burn your next playlist.

I use iTunes. I also have a lot of CDs of different genres. Some of those containing songs downloaded free years ago before that became more rigidly controlled. Between those and a few songs I have purchased on iTunes I have over 1,000 songs on my IPhone and play them thru my truck radio. I created several favorites lists so that I can choose a group of songs to play to suit my current mood. Easier than fiddling with a console full of CDs.

With ITunes or Windows Media layer. you can download your CD to your computer. Choose the tracs you want on a new CD, and burn them to it
