The system is Vista. Now all of a sudden it has started working this morning for no reason. We have fought it for 3 days. Crazy!!!

Just do a system restore, Not Windows recovery,
System restore from a date before the updates, then turn off automatic updates
You did not mention the operating system
Xp win7. Win8. ?

No IE is a feature, not a bug. Go Chrome or Firefox. I prefer Chrome.

Someone is looking out for you. As stated above. Use the laptop to download firefox and never look back. IE is a virus, spyware, malware magnet.

My Internet Explorer had quit working on my laptop ,windows 7 (64).
As luck has it,I had downloaded Fire fox & Google Chrom.
After about 6 months I deleted some Apple software,like i-tunes and
other Apple programs and out of the blue my IE started working just fine.

Are you using a firewall? Check the program rules. If IE is allowed, turn it to block and then back to allow.

Got a pop-up notification about IE and Windows XP yesterday......

Didn't pay attention as I use FireFox but it was something to do with the lack of support.

Is your Desk Top Windows XP?
How about Laptop?
