Motosat Quit, Have HD Direct Dish from Motosat

Our Motosat satellite system quit on this trip. We have a HD tv and an HD Direct dish with the Motosat blue light, not a dome. The Direct dish came from Motosat. We live in the Los Angeles area. We take a Direct receiver from home. Can someone give us suggestions? Do we start over with a Winegard Traveler system? Thanks in advance,Oldcarfun
  • I haven’t done any research and didn’t realize I couldn’t get HD Direct with a dome. We’ve had the open dish with Motosat since 2009. Thanks again
  • A portable does not mean a dome. He can use a portable open face antenna and have the same service as a Trav'ler and the flexibility to move around trees.
As an aside, sometime here in the near future you WILL be able to get HD with a dome and DirecTV. What we don't know yet is exactly when or exactly which channels we will be able to receive.

No HD with a carryout unless you go with DISH. The carry outs don’t work with DISH Hopper.

I use mine with a 211 and leave it in the RV.

  • I got tired of not getting a signal thru trees so quit using my rooftop dish.

I switched to DISH and bought a $400 Winegard Pathway carryout.

Gets HD, DISH has solid RV support, they’re glad to change to local programming, you can reauthorize from your phone.
  • Thank you for your help. We will have to use campground cable until we get home and I can test throughly. I think my coach is wired for Winegard. I installed the motosat. I 5hink it’s better to go with a mainstream product.

As mentioned below, when MotoSAT went out of business they opened a new business called RF Mogul. They may be able to help but they will likely just try to sell you a new antenna. Your old MotoSAT antenna has had a good life and it may simply be time to move forward and install a Winegard Trav'ler or the RF Mogul version. RF Mogul makes a good antenna, they just don't have many installers. You might be able to do the install yourself on either of these antennas but you will need to run a new control cable where the existing control cable runs.
