No HD Locals On Dishnet With Trav'ler

I switched from DirecTv to Dish and need to change my Travler over to Dish. I know the 2 parts I need to do it for WA sats but now found out that there is no way to get HD locals as the 110 sat does not carry Phila. locals. The Phila. HD locals are on 61.5 sat but Winegard for some reason does not offer a EA package for the Travler.

Has anyone run into this and what was the solution?

Thanx
  • I don't know, but I don't believe so.
To get there, start with the controller off. Push and hold the power button until it shows "power on" and release. Immediately move over and press and hold the "enter" button until you see it ask if you want to enter the user menu. Push "select" to move the * to Yes and then push "enter". You will be at the sat. selection option and push 'enter' again. Use 'select' to move down the list until you get to 61.5 beside the * and push 'enter'. I think that's if but if it asks something else, select the appropriate answer. Once done, power off the controller, wait a few seconds and power back on again to allow it to do a new search for the one satellite.

Is that procedure in the manual? I don't recall seeing it and I am nowhere near my manual.

See page 3 of the DISH Travler Manual.

You can manually select the 61.5 when using the Trav'ler but that takes a couple of minutes for the antenna to repoint and you would have to do a new check switch to let the receiver pickup that satellite. You would then be limited to watching programming from 61.5 only.
Otherwise, as you have indicated, there is no EA option for the Trav'ler.

I gave up on SAT TV when the local towns started their full high def digital TV mode.

We watch our local National Broadcast TV channels (NBC-CBS-etc) now using our OTA BATWING antenna. It is FREE to the public...

Even when we are at campgrounds with cable service we still like to watch the local stations using the OTA Batwing. Full HIGH DEF is alot better than what you get from the CABLE hook-ups. It does seem now however alot of the camp grounds are finally converting over to digital HDTV...

When camping off the power grids if we really really want to see some cable channels we can always downstream them over the internet...

This could be a BIG PLAN-B for you when you run into these problems...
