I still have the original Kindle, no add-ons, no repairs ... so can only say how well it's worked for me over several years. Perfect.
Have no intention of upgrading it, or doing anything different until it fails - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Seems to me, the 'improved' versions always come out, and break sooner. Once the original name is established, the quality goes in the tank. I had a Sprint original cell for about seven years - finally, the current techology got too 'advanced' and it wouldn't take calls any more.
Took it in and the store tech says, "I've never seen a phone that old." - Since then, about another six years with Sprint, have replaced five phones. Get one, it breaks, get a replacement, it breaks - each one lasts less than two years - conveniently, just in time for a new contract and a new phone ... go figure!!
