Plugged in, not charging

Not a question, a solution.

I reported a few days ago my Dell laptop charger shorted out. Until I could get a new one, I rigged up a charger of lesser amperage, to which the Dell showed the Subject message.

Today I plugged in the replacement charger and the message did not go away. A bit of googling turned up some really weird and involved procedures.

I simply shut down the computer, removed and reseated the battery, plugged her back in and all was good. Battery is now charging.

Yup, I will give you another source of that message one that is a bit more expensive.

Many computer batteries are made up of multiple cells, sometimes in series sometiems in series/parrell.. Each cell is independently monitored as to state of charge by the battery's computer (Yes the battery has a computer all its own) and if one cell is.. Shall we say a bit lower than the others.. It will not allow charging.. new battery time less you can figure out how to equlize (have not done that yet).

    :)

See answer to this on the other forum por favor.
  • MexicoWanderer, I want to apologize for the above post and bit of sniping that I participated in on another thread. I was out of line, and there was no real reason for it. I guess just a bit of a curmudgeonly old man being a poop.

I left the above post so you'd know what I'm talking about in case you hadn't seen it. I'm also going to post something similar on the other thread.
  • Gosh, I guess I could stoop to high school antics, but I think I'll let it pass with little response. :) Taking the high road I think it's called. And watch it in my full sized rear view mirror. :)
  • Hmmm, 2 types of readers oldman,

I got the message on the forum topics page and wondered how you solved it. Then there are others who demand a thesis grade explanation before the question is asked. Not criticism, it's just observation.
  • I had something like that happen to one of my Dell's a couple of years ago. Keep an eye on it because it may re-occur. What I eventually had to do with mine was replace the battery.
  • Why not post the Subject message, so we'll have an idea of what problem you solved?
