Remote TV speakers

Hi folks,
I just pulled out my old analog TV and will replace with new digital. On the back of the original TV I see there is a small headphone type plug into the back of the TV. Since my moho has 4 remote speakers I'm assuming this plug powers these spkrs. My question is; will the new digital TV, with headphone jack, do the same thing for me? Or do I need to add some other component to make these remote spkrs work?
Thanks
  • Not totally ignoring your initial post, I thought I'd share what I did in my travel trailer. When I added a new LCD TV, I routed the audio from that (NOT through the headphone jack) to the car stereo I had recently installed. I intentionally selected a stereo that had auxiliary audio inputs on the back just for this purpose. Since the stereo wasn't getting enough power through the OEM wiring to properly power the speakers, I also added car audio amps near those speakers and a self powered sub-woofer. My system now kind of reminds one of a teenager's $500 car with the $1200 sound system. :) It rocks pretty darned good!

Unit's like the one I previously referenced are very inexpensive and do a surprisingly good job.

Thanks for the link Billy W. I see I need to do some more research on this.

Thanks Teddychamp! This sounds promising. Regarding the audio amp, I see "mono", 2 channel, 3,4 etc.etc. All 4 of my spkrs are wired into 2 wires which has a small, single headphone type jack spliced onto the end (done by Winnebago).
You say "simple installation" but not for me :(
Given my description above, can you explain a bit more in depth?

    Thanks.
  • You have to Buy and Audio Amplifier from e-bay or any Electronic Stores, BestBuy, Radioschack etc. You can use the Headphone jack to connect to the Amplifier IN, or the RCA jacks from your TV, (Red and White round connectors). The speakers then connect to the output on the Amplifier. Simple installation.
  • The headphone jack by itself will not power large speakers.

The 4 speakers should be powered by a radio/unit somewhere. Your TV would be connected to the radio (assuming it has an aux input port) so that it can amplify the tv sound signal to the speakers.
