After owning this unit for a couple years ,I decided to purchase lifetime maps. Since the purchase, it seems the gps is taking me on routes that are out of the way and do not make sense. For example ,on a recent trip to upstate New York, I was routed about ten miles through what appeared to be farm roads. Very narrow with broken up pavement. When I arrived at my destination, I checked a map and found a state rd would have been a much better choice. Anyone with a similar experience? I have contacted Rand McNally and have not received a response.
If you read my post, you could see that I asked for input from someone who had a similar experience with a GPS. Apparently you are old school and use paper maps. Can you safely tow and look at a map at the same time? I refer to maps on occasion but found the GPS to be a valuable tool when towing on busy freeways etc. It works for me most of the time. Before GPS, I found myself in difficult situations. I appreciate helpful replies.
