Satellite dome

I use RainX which helps a lot but in real heavy rain it still will lose the signal!!

Jet dry used in dish washers helps but is no cure.
I got tired of the signal loss in light rain or fog and replaced with an automatic dish.

We been using satellites for years both on our home and MH.
What seems to work best is a good cleaning, removing and grime,sap or mold. After a through cleaning, apply 2 coats of good quality carnuba auto wax.
Rain fade is dependent on your satellite's location. If you onbtain a signal strengh of 90% or better, then you will be good most of the time.
At those times when you lose signal,due to an oncomming storm; its time to snuggle up to a book..or the DW/DH

First and foremost, NEVER USE RAIN-X! Please read the information on the bottle about never using on plastic.
There is nothing you can cure the reduced performance of a dome during weather events but anything you can do to keep it clean will help. You need the water to bead up so a good waxing a couple times per year, Protect-All or 303 (every couple months) will help. Events like morning dew are the worst as there is enough water to block the signal but not enough to cause it to bead up and run off. No real cure for that.

Yeah... just swap it out for a Winegard Trav'ler... :W Just kidding, of course. But seriously, that's what we did as we had the dome on our previous coach and since we spend our summers on the Oregon coast, we had a lot of problems due to the amount of rain we get up there. Ripped the dome off and purchased the Trav'ler while it was on sale at CW and installed it in place of the dome. Worked perfectly.

When we purchased our new mh, it also had a dome on it, and a provision for purchase was that they would remove the Trav'ler from our old mh and install it in place of the dome on the new one.

There just isn't any comparison between the performance of the two.

Kingdome sells a spray on coating that is supposed to halp, At least I think it's kingdome.. CW should sell it.

That said... Domes are the absolute WORST antennas for bad weather performance.

I have some spray from Rustolium that is supposed to repel water really good. Don't know how well it will work on the dome, that's what I bought it for but haven't used it yet.

If it is going to leave a permanent coating (like paint), I would not use it. Even if that's not the case, ensure there are no warnings about using it on plastic. It occurs to me you are referring to "Never Wet" and that could be an interesting experiment. I'm going to go look at their site now.

NeverWet is a two-step product system designed to create a moisture repelling barrier on a variety of substrates. It is suitable for use on metal, wood, aluminum, galvanized metal, PVC, concrete, masonry, asphalt, vinyl siding, fiberglass, canvas, most plastics and more.

It does say you need to sand the surface to get rid of any gloss and the unit will likely be discolored, but it would be really interesting to know if it's good enough to help with the worst situations like morning dew.
