The Hopper's Huge Size and Sling Use

Due to the Hoppers suitcase like size, I was wondering if it could be mounted on it's side during use? There just is no room in the AV cabinet for it. I would lay it flat and powered down for travel.

Will the sling feature work on any Mac product? Like a Mac Book Air laptop.

Thanx

Hard drives can be operated either flat or on edge (any of the 4 edges) upside down or not.. Angles can be a problem on some drives but most drives do not mind being on edge as long as they are not in motion.

And if you are bouncing down the highway on edge may be better (or not depending on which edge) than flat epically if it did not park properly. DVR heads may never park properly since it is never truly off.

Some of the heat sinks may not work as well on edge, but ... Air circulation fixes that.. Make sure the compartment is properly ventilated (many are not) and cooled.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Hopper works fine on IPad 2. We have been using the transfer feature and DVR options since last September. Only problem when trying to access DVR while visiting friends I forgot and turned our home wi-fi off....grrrr!

Could you back up that statement with something we could read? Dish specifically states otherwise.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

Try standing a Hopper on it's side and see how long it runs with the vents blocked.

I don't think 2"x16"x11.5" quite qualifies as "suitcase like", but Bill has it. The Hopper needs to be flat when in operation. The "Dish Anywhere" Sling feature should work on most devices with Internet access, but the appropriate plugins or apps may not be available for all OS's and browsers. Windows RT tablets for instance can not access it. We use it with Windows 8.1 and Linux on our laptops, and via an app on our Android tablets and phones. I don't have any Apple products available to test with.

There should be no issue storing the Hopper in any position as long as it is powered off and the hard drive was given enough time to park itself. If must be flat and stationary while powered on.
