I purchased my new laptop without a DVD player/recorder. I am unable to load PIXELA (the program that supports file transfer)from the DVD that came with the camera because I do not have a DVD player/recorder. I've tried to load from the PIXELA website, but their charge for a "lost" DVD is $40. One option is to purchase an external DVD and load or to look here and see if there are any other options. All comments appreciated.

Unless you really feel you need Pixella, you might just consider transferring the photos using a card reader and use a different program. IMO most of those programs that come with the cameras are only so-so at managing photos, and you might find one that will serve you better. FWIW I've tried a couple of the programs that come with cameras, and didn't care for any of them.

I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio and download from my video camera with that. There is a Capture Video selection under the Project Menu.

I have a portable USB DVD / CD drive I use for occasions like that. It sits in a static bag on the shelf until that once every 16 months when I need it.They are cheap enough to buy - might be worth considering.

THANK YOU for all of the comments! I do use a cardreader for my Canon Camera, but since the memory is built into the FS 20 I do not have the luxury of using that transfer procedure here. As BobsYourUncle mentioned, a USB DVD/CD drive is inexpensive. That is probably what I'll be doing.

Every free trial download that I have ever used, Adobe PS, Lightroom, Sony Vegas Pro is the full program without any "watermarks" as they are referred to. There is a time function built into the program where after 30 days, the download becomes non functional. If you buy the software, then it overrides the disable function.

Adobe has a good deal now for Photoshop Elements & Premier Elements 13 for about $100. This should cover 99% of the photo & video editing that most people would ever need

Is your laptop on a network with a PC with a DVD drive. Share the drive on the PC, go into the network on the laptop and find the DVD shared drive, and use that to install the software to your laptop. It works and there is no need to buy a portable DVD USB unit, though one of those is good to have if taking the laptop on the road.

Make sure you use the faster memory cards for video recording. It does make a difference.

Thanks 8.1 Van! I have a card reader that I use for my digital camera. I've just read in the manual (I printed out the 100 page one from on line) that you can set the camera to record on either the built in memory or the memory card. Now there is a possibility.

The Canon FS 20 specs shows it uses SD memory cards so just use a USB card reader to transfer to the laptop.
