Sony does not build their components, and are subject to failure by others, just as Samsung and Panasonic are.By the time they figure out there's a supplier problem there could be 100,000 units already out there.

We had a person at the station full time replacing caps in Sony & Panasonic VTR's, then moved on to Panasonic monitors. It ain't their fault (mostly)

Can't go wrong with Samsung, get an LED model as they are the most efficient. Panasonic makes great plasma tvs, but they are getting out of the tv business in 2014, per CNET.

I like Vizio. '08 42 plasma is our main set, '10 32 LCD is bedroom screen and computer monitor. Both have been in our trailer, 42 for about 1 1/2 years long timing and the 32 for the months on end that we bounce out from the house.

I've seen exactly the opposite, hence have never needed to research. All of our Samsung's running 24/7 (they are never turned off and always have a picture or graphic) have been 100% reliable since 2007. Of the roughly 45-50 total monitors in production control room service, 4 are Sony XBR (they were on sale), and 3 have died, all from component failure. Hopefully that's a fluke because a 75% failure rate ain't good.

I also have an XBR, but only because I couldn't find a Samsung that had what I needed. So far, so good on that one.

Can you back that up? This is not the Tier 2 Samsung of 20 years ago.

When my Samsung TV died when it was 3 years old I did research on the different TV's I found that Samsung provides most of the screens to the other companies. Including Sony. I also was able to determine, at least in the higher end sonies, that the capaciters and the other electronics are much better built to handle any heat and normal electronic wear and tear.
I ended up buying a Sony XBR line which is the higher end. Before doing my research I would have simply bought another samsung. So far I am glad I bought the Sony even though it cost more.

Do a little research your self. It is not the screen that fails on TV's it is usually a faulty part inside that failed.

Love my Vivio's! Excellent picture, nearly 180 degree viewing angle, rock solid performance. Will it last 6 years in my coach? Not likely. I love new technology and I will likely replace it with the next great thing before the TV;s ever die! OLED anyone?

Can you speak to why? As I stated above, ours is 5 years old and has performed flawlessly.
