USING CHROME BROWSER

I have been using both FIREFOX and CHROME for a long time but here recently (past couple of days) I have been getting an AD from AMAZONAWS that blocks my computer from being used and Microsoft jumps in and tells me I have a TRACKER capable of getting my personal data.

Computer lock ups and wants me to call MICROSOFT at one of their tech supports number 888-609-0405 or 888-609-0407...

I am able to reset the computer and after I am on again for a few minutes I get the same thing again.

I have finally figured out it is when I am logged into WOODALLs FORUM when using the CHROME BROWSER... I downloaded the latest version of CHROME which I was already using and same results...

When using Microsoft Edge or FIREFOX browser all works just fine...

Just curious if anyone is experiencing this...

Have been using FIREFOX now for my some ten or so TABs that are opened shared between two of my 24-inch monitors... All is normal so far now... My computer is WIN 10...

I have done this a few times as well... It's my final PLAN B to use to get me out of trouble...

My problem is I always lose something in the process haha...

My BACKUP ROUTINE is poor... I have a couple of portable hard drives I usually use for backups... The newer generation is all using the cloud I guess... Being old school that just scares me to death haha...

I'll chime in again with another recommendation.I downloaded Superantispyware free recently. I was impressed with the speed of its scans. It doesn't offer real-time protection ( there's a paid version that does), but if you already have real-time anti-malware protection on your computer you may want to try this out.

Nope did not call it or click on anything on the page...

MALWAREBYTES came up with the AMAZONAWS link... I had two on my computer one with more additional ltrs and the a second one with (2) after it... Both of those got deleted... Then today it popped again when I was using CHROME... This time it didn't find any adware... I ran MALWAREBYTES again...

I hate this **** haha... Have been using FIREFOX and CHROME for many years with no problems at all...

The only way to get going again is to REBOOT... My computer is a DELL INSPIRON 17R5737 using INTEL CORE i7-4500U CPU x64 bit processor...

What else did you do to get rid of it...

Roy Ken

Malwarebytes did not find anything.
I used another computer and did a search. Was told it was a R** something worm. Had me sign into my infected laptop using google. Sorry I do not know the full resetting.

AMAZONAWS is a browser hijacker. If Malwarebytes isn't taking care of it (you tried running it in safe mode, right?) then try Hitman Pro. Or use Hijack This, but be careful with it. It can be found here. Follow all directions carefully, and delete NOTHING unless you are 100 percent sure that it's a good idea.

So I had to uninstall Chrome, then reinstall it, then change the setting so that Chrome doesn't go back to the same tabs when re-opened. Then as someone said, if the malware appears, do Ctrl-Alt-Delete > Task Manager > close Chrome, then reopen Chrome.

I have Malwarebytes, but it seldom finds anything at all. We also use SuperAntiSpyware, Free version. It doesn't seem to solve this problem, but it always removes an awful lot of spyware.

That sounds great advice... Had not thought about Chrome doing that... Mine does same thing bring me back to where I left off... All I did for Chrome was check its updates which are good so will delete it and open it back up with a new version...

Chrome for me is faster that Firefox. I sit here all day with five or six BROADCASTIFY radio scanners running. This replaced my old radio scanner when they all went to digital mode. The new scanners cost a arm and leg these days so I am glad to get my scanner fill from the internet using BROADCASTIFY... This was on the CHROME side and when I opened them all back up on Firefox I notice they are a bit slower for some reason...

Yes, Firefox is definitely slower than Chrome. I don't use it often, but I can tell you that Safari for Windows (free download also) is also quite fast, so you might give it a go sometime.

Yeah, it's a fact, we do all live in our own little worlds. :E

This is my second day now not using CHROME and so for so good... Like one post here says it could be the Chrome program has picked up a virus... When the dust settles I think I will just download a new version of Chrome and see what that does... My daughter says I should be using the MICROSOFT EDGE browser program but the CLOUD feature scares me big time haha... I still remember when Microsoft was downloading everybody's hard drive contents to a site in Austraila at one time many years back... Thanks again for all the comments...

We use Chrome, have for years, and really like it, but we keep Mozilla Firefox and Safari on our computers as alternate browsers (both free downloads). Personally don't like / never use any Mickeysoft browsers.

FWIW, interestingly enough, I got the same thing, except I could easily close Chrome, and I use Debian Linux.

Roy,

Try the Google Chrome Cleanup tool:
Clicky

Another option is Combofix. It's like industrial drain-o however, it can damage Windows if something goes wrong
Combofix

As another poster suggested, a clean install of Windows is a good solution, often taking less time and frustration than trying one fix after another.
