Hi, does anyone know if you can hook up a wifi camera to a mobile hotspot ? Either a portable one or the one on an iPhone? I would like to be able to set up a camera in our trailer for when we leave the dog for any period of time in the heat. I would most likely aim it at thermometer so I can see the temperature in the trailer from another iPhone. Anyone have advice or thoughts. Thanks.

Why not. Mobile hotspot is just a WIFI.I use my android for similar functions.But I do have unlimited data plan.

If you have WiFi setup, they do make sensor modules that can measure temps, water leaks, break-in alerts, and send updates auto to an iPhone or Android smartphone using an app.

Allow me to google that for you.

BTW, using a temp monitor will likely use significantly less mobile data bandwidth, as it's just sending text alerts and updates, versus a constant on remote webcam.

What I was looking at doing is just having the camera not constantly on, rather only on when viewing if a person is able to do that. But the temperature sensor is a great idea.

You don't need a static IP with all WiFi cams.

I use two CloudCams with a Verizon 4G connected hotspot. It was a piece of cake to set up.

Using an iPhone app, I can access my two cameras from anywhere.

BTW, data usage only starts when you access the cameras -- they aren't constantly streaming data.

For temp and humidity data, I use a LaCrosse Wireless Temp & Humidity Monitor.

It CAN be done, but it's a PIA. First, you must have a business account with AT&T. You then need an i2gold option for your hotspot. This will allow you to have a static IP for your hotspot. Because AT&T wireless uses double NAT for accessing your hotspot you cannot possibly ping or remotely access your hotspot without a static IP. Good luck with it.

They're made by a number of manufacturers in various price ranges.

Though I've personally not used one, here's a portable battery operated device called The Knut, and can send temperature data over WiFi using their software, to your mobile iOS or Android device. Also has the capability to use water and door sensors. You can click the above video to watch their original Kickstarter campaign back in 2012.

whether it will work or not ?

having a webCam continuous on the hot spot is "telemetry"
which is against your terms of service rule with your cellular hotspot provider

using a temp sensor to monitor and send text msg, is more within useage settings
and less likely to cause you any complications with your provider

Thanks, do you know any models or companies that make theses? What I was looking at doing is just having the camera not constantly on, rather only on when viewing if a person is able to do that. But the temperature sensor is a great idea.
