winegard antenna

Greetings!
The MH in question is a 2006. TV stopped working with a "no signal" displayed on the screen. I went up on the roof and connected an indoor antenna and received all the local stations. The Winegard has a wall plate with an off on switch, pilot light illuminates when its on. Searching the Winegard web site I see they supplied antennas with and without in head amplifiers. My attempt to isolate problem will be to insure I have 12v at the antenna, I'm assuming that the wall plate and the pilot light indicates I have a amp in the antenna head, and assuming I do, What's next? Is the amp replaceable of do I need a whole new head?

You most likely have an amplified antenna but it's possible that it could be unamplified. I have had both an amplified and unamplified Sensar III antenna head. The unamplified antenna had a wall plate with amplifier and it also had a pilot light.

Here's a site with some excellent tips from Chris Bryant:http://rx4rv.com/tune-up-your-tv-antenna/
  • I just had the same issue. I decided to upgrade to a new winegard antenna with the batwing. I also added a sensar pro box to replace the original in my 2001 Beaver DP.

I used a cable tester after I removed all three tv cables and tested all the cable and marked them all.

When I tested the cable at the connection at the roof to the booster I was getting an intermittent signal so I knew that the section of cable had an issue. I pulled the cable up through the roof after getting all the sealant peeled away and found a torn piece of cable showing the shielding and the center copper and it was kinked some.

I removed the cable wire by fishing a new section of cable from the antenna to the sensar pro direct.

Hooked all the wires back up and tuned the antenna in using the sound and turning the antenna to the strongest point. I then scanned all three tv's and was amazed at how many signals I recieved (33) and the closest stations are 40-50 miles away from my home. I should have spent two days a long time ago doing this...
  • Amp is in the head, needs 12v as provided by the wall plate, and yes they are easily replaced with only two pins. Check voltage on coax at the antenna head. moisture somes causes the inside conductor of coax to croode and breat at the connectors. While checking, might check the model numbr on the batwing, just to make sure what model it is.
  • Go up on the roof and check the COAX for 12+ volts DC, the wallplate
    switch has to be ON.
    Siggy
