Winegard G2 Antenna security

Just popped for one of the new Winegard G2 antennas that will set on the ground and should allow us to receive DirecTV programming while parked in the trees. I plan to write my name all over it to make a potential thief think again before `borrowing' it. Maybe just my initials in permanent marker.
May make it hard to sell in the future, however.
  • I have had my van broken into and some valuables stolen so some are just lucky and some are not. It's not a perfect World and taking a bit of precaution if you are uncomfortable might just allow you to sleep better.
  • The worst theft I've seen in 70 plus years of camping/RV'ing is kids occasionally stealing beer out of an unattended cooler. Not counting critter thefts of course. Dang raccoons!!!
  • Like kalynzoo, we've been camping a long time. Nearly 30 years. We've never seen thefts in campgrounds. Doesn't mean it won't happen. And I think it has a lot to do with location and clientele.
  • There is a security loop on the antenna as well. If you are concerned you can always run a cable around a semi non-moveable object.

Use an engrave and engrave the following..

    ST/DRIVERs LICENSE NUMBER

Example if your last name is Davis and you live in MI.

    MI/D-120-123-456-789

(I only coded the last name, I did that so I did not run out of digits).

This way.. IF it is "Lost" and recovered... Takes the nice police man's dispatcher less than a minute on the average to print out your name and address.

(Been there, Done that, as they say.. Poor thief,, He put his stolen CB with engraved Driver's License Number in a stolen car. He won the prize.. Free room and board for an extended period of time at one of the State's more exclusive "Resorts".. (Prison if you don't speak sarcasm).
  • Never seen a sat dish that would receive while in trees, "unless there is a hole"

  • Really? 35+ years of RVing with reasonable caution, and I've never had anything missing from a campsite. Maybe I'm just luck. I guess you could use and engraving tool to put your numbers into the metal/plastic, but then someone could just buff it out. And I'd be more concerned with the damage to the roof.
Enjoy your rving, and happy Trails.
