Our office is at the back and our media stuff is at the front. Wired internet comes in the front (cable or DSL) and wireless access is at the back with a wifi ranger.

It was just easier to put in 2 routers and 1 cat5 cable between because our configuration changes depending on where we are.

Thanks Bobbo, I guess the printer has a built in router that shows up under wireless spots on my computer. That should work if that's the case.

It is printer specific. I posted a link to the manual for my HP 7520. Page 49 tells how to use WIFI Direct with THAT printer. It may or may not be the same with a different printer.

WiDi seems like an evolving technology - some device pairs work, some don't.

Me, I have TWO routers in my RV - didn't need to run a bunch of cables from front to back - just one to connect the routers.

Ahhhh Bob, he said he doesn't want a router. Look, the easiest way to do this is to get a cheap wireless router for local printing. No internet needed. What is so complicated about this? Set up a local network and connect the wireless printer to it. PC's, tablets, iphones, androids, all will be able to print. If Dons needs info on how to do this I would be glad to go into details. I WOULD like to hear specific details about this Wifi direct thing from BoBo.

The MiFi has it's own phone number and connects to a cell tower for data transfer and it creates the WiFi signal. Using WiFi it's able to connect up to 15 devices (model dependent).

For W7 if the Icon is not visible then you bring up Network and Sharing Center and select the Verizon-xxx signal and you'll be prompted for the password. Also there will be a check box that is something like "Connect to this device automatically." You do something similar for all of your computers Linux, Apple, tablets, printers, etc. The procedure is basically the same as a router with WiFi.

When ink runs out (very rare for us) or drys up or froze. I just head for WM on a good sale day and buy the cheapest printer. Typically under $30 and latest features. The new world of disposable printers.
