Yahoo e-mail format change...!

Uhg! Yahoo in their infinite wisdom felt the need to "upgrade" the mail format. It is absolutely horrible!! I had no choice in this... they just did it on their own.

I guess I will have to get used to it... not more mail tabs at the top which was very convenient. Just venting... beware that it is coming down the pike for any yahoo users here.

I've learned that you get what you pay for, and for "free" E-mail, you are not the customer, but the product.

I am definitely not impressed with the updates. Right-clicking on a message to filter it is impossible unless one uses Internet Explorer (the menu comes up, but no options work), and it just seems sluggish overall.

I keep a Yahoo account that I pay for each month (mainly for IMAP access), which I look through every so often to see if there is anything worth reading. This is the account I toss onto the web forms when an E-mail address is prompted. My real E-mail I use for personal/business stuff is on a paid custom domain using hosted Exchange, and that is the one that messages get pushed to my phone.

I was ready to kill the new stuff///all the icons were little boxes, making it dysfunctional. As 1492 said, /b/ gets to a simpler view, but you cannot type a letter or two to bring up desired contact in "To' box.

Got icons by changing ff 24 setting to allow pages to choose own fonts.

Once I learn to navigate that conversation merge of separate but related emails, I think I will give this new version a big thumbs up. Lots of screen controls, like squashing the left hand menu to a narrow column of icons, for one.

I am pretty sure that I will be the lone voice in the wind, but if you don't like your current e-mail provider, change e-mail providers! I have done this several times and while it is a pain at first, it makes me happy in the long run. Yes, I have to send e-mails to all of my "important" contacts and request that they use my new address but otherwise it's just like letting someone know that you moved and you have a new phone number. Has that been a problem for you in the past? I suspect that it has not and it's just a matter of getting it done.
I just setup a new @outlook.com address today to eliminate issue with another address. It was not a primary account but it will still alleviate an issue and have a slight learning curve. No worries, I will figure it all out before I kill the other account.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Yahoo discontinued Mail Classic, forcing all users to upgrade to the new version. Basically, telling their subscribers to upgrade, or look for a different email provider.

If you want Yahoo Mail basic version, and it's not remaining on that setting when using options, then just disable Javascript in your browser when logging into your account. Without Javascript enabled, Yahoo mail will default to the basic version.

The "/b" add to the string does in fact bring yahoo back to basic view (just as going into the settings and selecting that option.)

Basic view is not the same as the previous version. Open e-mails as tabs at the top (one of the biggest complaints) is not present in the new or basic versions. Basic view does not populate new e-mail addresses whereas the "new" version option does.

I don't use Yahoo Mail except for Y Groups contact. But you can try this to switch back to the basic mail view.

Once you log in to your Yahoo account, your Mail URL looks something like this:

    http://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.rand=07eiEio1138....

Modify the URL by adding /b/ as follows, then hit ENTER:

    http://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/neo/b/launch?.rand=07eiEio1138....

See if Yahoo Mail now switches to the basic view?

New format is lame, I for one do not see any improvement.
Old or New Format> Their filters are a joke, You need a filter for each email address. There is no way that you can keep up eliminating unwanted emails.
The contacts list should specify which folder a received email goes into. If an email is received from someone not in your address book it should end up as spam or in a folder named unknown, based on their spam filter. That way you could control your inbox.
Each day I have to delete 10 or 12 emails from companies that I am not interested in.

Yahoo has switched me back to the new format several times now. As of a few minutes ago, though, I was still able to get into settings and switch myself back to basic view.

When Yahoo first changed from Classic to the new version, I couldn't keep their !@#$% Messenger turned off but that setting did eventually stick so hopefully this one will, too.

It worked for a day. Now I cannot get back to the old version. The new mail sucks

Quite frankly it SUCKS!
Automatic population of saved contacts works for me except for ONE of about a hundred.

Home computer worked fine this AM, office computer has yahoo converting to new format.

I also notice now that the (not sure of the proper term) but the photo .jpg "expand-to-view-it" does not work anymore. You know, when someone sends an image you just click on it, it expands and then after viewing you can either close it or download it.

Now to see the image you MUST download it.

Not a fan of the new format.

I have tried doing the POP deal in the past, but my MS office (home version)does not have Outlook (I would need to get a new updated version to have Outlook)... I bet yahoo is purposely doing this to frustrate the free users to force them to pay $50 so that they can use the POP to get a usable e-mail. It is all about the money

The last time I payed for Yahoo mail, about a year ago, it was around $12 for the year, but I now just checked and yes, they are charging $49.99. As far as security, Google says that they scan your email to help them direct adds to you and you should not be surprised that they do this.
