Boondocking and vent fans

We will need to be boondocking next Friday night in Delaware. Suppose to be warm. Just sleeping hrs 11pm till say 630. It's a new trailer with the factory battery. Would we be ok running the vent fans overnight to help keep it cool. Or will they run the battery dry.
  • If you get the O2 fan that takes 8 D cells, it will be 12 volt and you can make an adapter to plug it into your trailer system. I did that and added a 12 volt outlet near the bed. Now I have the option of 120 volt, internal batteries or trailer battery.

X2 - these are great! Very quiet, get one for each person. 4-5 nites per set of batts (2D cells). https://www.amazon.com/O2COOL-5-Inch-Portable-Fan-Gray/dp/B001B16VT6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470969429&sr=8-1&keywords=o2cool+5

Available several places. Got us through the midwest heat wave.

We use these as well while boondocking. Bought on Amazon.
  • We have a fantastic fan with thermostat, run it all night on setting 2.. usually turns off after 4-5 hours. Single Group 24 battery, we can be pretty generous with the fan usage for 2-3 days. You should be fine.

I'd make sure that your tow vehicle charging line is connected properly so that while you are towing the battery is charging.
  • We purchased one of these several years ago as they plug into a 12v gig lighter inside and can also be used outside if the same type of lighter connection is available in a storage compartment. Is variable speed and is smaller than a regular box type fan but does move the air. Might also consider buying a 12v extension card to use if/when needed. Amazon/Ebay might also have these available.

  • We've used Fantastic roof fans overnight and yes, they definitely cool especially if you adjust opening and closing windows depending where the breeze is coming from and for cross-breezes.

They use very little battery power.

  • We have overnighted at least 4 times on battery only, running a Maxxair MaxxFan Deluxe all night long every time, never came close to running the battery down. We always had the fridge on propane at the time as well.

Is is enough ventilation on a hot and humid night at 80-85? Nope. But rarely do you encounter nights that hot and humid after 9pm.

  • How many fans we talkin here, what make, what model?

If it's the dinky little vent fan that Elkhart installs, screwed into the support frame of the roof vent, you should be OK running that overnight all weekend.

If it's a bigger fan, you'll get one night, just measure your battery the next morning and see what shape you're in.

Don't forget, your fridge takes battery power even on propane, and so do a few other minor loads.
