DIY toilet cleaner

Thetford wants folks to buy their special RV toilet cleaner. I'm sure there are formulas for making something up that won't harm the seal on the knife valve at the bottom of the toilet and still do a good job. Anyone?
  • Just avoid using anything abrasive on the plastic bowl toilets. We use a regular residential bowl cleaner on our porcelain bowl toilet. It does a good job of cleaning mineral buildup off the flush seal.

Same as home toilet, no need for special, any septic safe product.
  • Just use same thing you use in the house. Wont hurt a thing.
  • I've used the Thetford brand for a porta potty and another product they make to add to the porta potty fresh water tank to make the bowl slicker to reduce skid marks in the bowl, but I use Soft Scrub for the toilet in the TT.

    Soft scrub works fine.

My RV actually came with a sticker from the manufacturer on the toilet and shower that states to use "Soft Scrub".
  • We've been using Clorox Clean-up with Bleach for the toilet and the shower stall for the last few years. Our previous Motorhome had a Thetford plastic toilet. For 2 years we spent 4-5 months at a time in the motorhome, cleaned the toilet a few times per week with just a few sprays. It didn't harm the toilet.
