They can label as many fees on the paperwork as they want. All I care about is the end price, going out the door. If I buy something for $35,000. Then it's $35,000. Tax, tag, title, etc. I don't care if they wanna say they sold it to me for $34,000 and then charged me $500 doc fee and $500 whatever fee. It's still the price I agreed to.

We bought in Texas but registered in another state where there is no sales tax.

Did not pay Texas sales tax or any other state fees there might have been if the unit was going to stay in Texas.

Agree with Denverhank. Make the fees inclusive or walk. His choice.

I have never payed a "doc" fee for a vehicle. I have sold insurance for 46 years and never got extra for filling out an application. There is really a lot of work after the app is filed out and that is part of the business. I have walked away from a few deals over the years but have managed to buy over 50 vehicles in our 55 years together.

Y-Guy - I read that article you posted and found myself thinking that doc fees are completely ridiculous when you look at their definition of doc fees. The dealer is in business to sell stuff. Part of selling that product is the required paper work to satisfy the legal requirements. That time / labor and so on falls inot the "Cost of doing business" on the dealers end, in my opinion.
I know they don't all do it. It thier choice. The dealer I recently bought a vehicle from made it clear, the moment I hit the price topic of the vehicle, that the price is it - out the door - no fees added except what the state requires to make it legal.

I've purchased five RVs and numerous cars, all tried to add on extra fees, I've walked from several dealerships that wouldn't negotiate. It's pure profit if you pay them. Some States do have established Doc fees, most don't though. $350 is outrageous, $35-100 I might agree with if I was getting a great deal. Out of State fee? Are they meeting you some place with the RV for delivery? If not I'd refuse to pay that one period, at least without a reasonable explanation.

When I bought my Jeep the owner of the lot and his sales guy all shook hands on the value of my trade and the sales price of the car, I even stated final price before I shook on it. Singing the paperwork they added a Doc fee, I reminded him of our agreement, he tried to negotiate a bit and I reminded him I had his word of final price. He agreed and I drove off happy. They didn't want to lose the sale over a few bucks.
