Fire ring/bowl??
Do you travel with one? What do you use? Hubby doesn't want propane - only a real wood burning fire.

The washtubs used for fire rings are from an automatic washer and as IAMICHABOD said, they are either enameled or stainless steel. The wastubs that were galvanized are the ones from the early part of the last century where you used a washboard and had a manual wringer.
Actually, they were used long after the "washboard era". My mother had a set on the farm that she used with a Maytag gas engine powered washing machine. Yes, it had a wringer, no spin cycle.
Well, actually, it didn't have "cycles" it was on or off!
She used the same tubs in town when she had an electric wringer washing machine.
Here in Montana, don't bother to bring your firepits, especially during the late summer. You won't be allowed to use them in the back country campgrounds, and many RV parks won't allow it either.cmoecmoe wrote:

Looks are deceptive since it can hold at least 1 supermarket wood bundle. inexpensive but worth every penny IMO. Instead of buying the base plate I use a $1.50 16"*16" quarry tile from a big box store:

yep. Bought it at Walmart. Got started bringing one when we were camping at the NASCAR races in Phoenix. They don't want you burning on the ground. Also, some places we boondock don't have fire rings.cmoecmoe wrote:

I think I mentioned on another thread that I loved this idea. I will likely back it. Solves a lot of problems. Wood, gas or charcoal. Small enough to transport anywhere, easy to clean up, you can cook on it, nice lid etc.... This should be a home run for them.- Here is the link for the Kickstarter Campfire In A Can.

I think this no fire pit thing is more common out west. It is dry here and all kinds of rules and regulations exist when it comes to fires and even out right fire bans. I have seen fire bans, I have seen no fire pits, I have seen fire pits that were as high as my head when I sat down next to it, and I have even seen fire pits located in very strange and or inconvenient places. Almost as if the park host said to himself, "Hmmmm. Where would be the crappiest placer to put a fire pit?" :S- We don't go through all the trouble of carrying something extra for a fire, have never been to a CG that didn't have a fire pit, although I have been to a couple that had a community fire place rather than individual ones at each site, while I know there are some out there, we have never been to one.

Now with the Class C I had to find something smaller.I found a small wash tub that fits in the cargo compartment. I put it in an old laundry bag for transport and it keeps everything clean.
It works great and I can use it in a fire pit or stand alone. With the legs on it is legal in every park that I have been in here in the west.
The nice thing about a wash tub fire pit is that it gives heat all around it and contains the fire.
I stand corrected......It IS a washing MACHINE Tub fire pit
