I don't think dry camping without hookups for your first time out is a terrible idea. When we got our new rig (our 2nd one), our first two trips had electrical hookups. On Trip 3, We discovered that the front AC didn't work properly on generator power until Day 1 of a week long dry camping trip over the 4th of July with 90 degree weather. It worked fine when hooked up to shore power., We were out in the middle of nowhere with no phone service so we just suffered through it. Not fun though.
Also, we learned that the process for dumping was different with our new rig than our old one, and that the factory had mislabeled the black and grey valves while at the dump station the first time. So be sure you test that out too :)
