South west washington road conditions

Has anyone every travelled using their travel trailer on FR 30 and route FR90 in south west washington state? We are wanting to avoid the traditional oregon gorge route through portland and up the I5 but are not sure of this road condition i.e paved? wide enough for RV travel, curvey etc. Much appreciated.
  • Give us some idea of where you are trying to get to and from where.
And what time of year are you doing this? Now or the middle of next summer?
  • Last time I was over those roads.... they were paved, except in a couple areas that were washed out and only re-graveled. There was one bridge that had washed out and the replacement bridge was one-lane (no lights, stop and proceed with caution). Both were rough, lots of poorly (or not) repaired pot-holes, broken shoulders, etc. Those roads took a lot of flood damage a few years back and the region does not have the $$$$ to repair them properly.

I have taken a 24ft 5er over that road, with few issues.

A friend talked his wife into going with him over that road, talking about a "stop at Mt Saint Helens", then he decided he was running too late (due to a detour to see something else he wanted to see), so he took the road at the fastest he could in his rally modified Miata. He regretted that for some time.

In general, I would take the Interstate.
  • Are you talking about the roads through the Gifford Pinchot?

I've been over most with my rig- one lane gravel in places, some pavement in others. Easy travel when the weather's good, but I think they'll be snowed over pretty soon. And could be right muddy even now!
  • FR numbers are forest service roads are they not? NOT ADVISED FOR RV TRAVEL. Stick with state and federal numbered roads and you'll be OK.
