2019 Chevrolet Equinox towing

I own a 2019 equinox. I towed it the first time a few days ago. I had a dead battery after towing about 5 hours. I had a pro install a road master wiring kit and charge wire. I installed a road master Brakemaster brake also. I used the owner manual under towing and followed it exactly. I turned off my radio, info system, and lights. I had the car towed to the Chevy dealer, they charged the battery and found a problem with the brake module, they rebooted the computer and the car started and everything is ok with the car. What they didn’t know was what caused the problem. I would like to be sure I won,t have a problem again when I head cross country. I would like to know if anyone can help me.
  • Currently, I am searching for information about Equinox on this forum, and info about new ford explorer here - https://coolcarsforever.com/
. I try to choose between these two models. I compare them. What do you think? Worh it?
  • Here is what I do which isn't listed. I have had all the same problems everyone has, a fellow RVer told me to do this LAST STEP and it works for me: go to the main screen (where the radio is displayed) hit (home) then (settings) then (display) then (turn display off). I haven't driven over 400 miles at one time but have driven over 4,000 mi. with car attached and no dead battery.
  • Steve, with all the new processes to tow vehicles it's no wonder your battery died. Keep doing that and your battery will be toast. Get yourself a battery charger/maintainer and you'll be happy with the results. Below is a link to my earlier post as well as a link to RVI....good luck....Dennis

  • Plenty of people towing an Equinox. I had battery issues as well.

If you search the Dinghy towing forum with the keyword Equinox, there's probably 50 threads including a couple of mine and one from a member named Dennis who actually got Chevy to change their procedure for towing.

I ended up not using the brake and pulling the fuse recommended in the manual. This potentially would cause the "death wobble" so I bungeed the steering wheel. That, plus an RVi Brake Toad Charger solved the dead battery issue. I now run my RVi2 brake from the battery jumper pack. I'm really glad I bought that jumper pack. The BEST purchase I ever made.
