The more troublesome thing is that some media sources do not feel it is important to report events accurately.
I communicated with the Chief Editor of CNN Broadcast News about the inaccuracies of their coverage of hurricane Rita (the one following Katrina). Since the media had people in place and had been whipped into a frenzy by Katrina, many stories were broadcast with no accuracy. The last E mail from Mr Editor, he stated that it was more important to generate real-time news to inform the public than to get it right. It's difficult to argue with an idiot.
