7th year with trailer tires, is it time to change them?

I replace mine when the tread is gone. But that's just me. I have blown one tire in 40 year and I think that was a low air pressure deal.

Some brand of tires the tread will pull and separate before 5 years. I try to stay away from those. I've had some on my TT for 15 years and never had a problem. I suggest you don't do what I do unless you know what to look for.

If they are holding pressure, if there are no sidewall cracks, if the tread is still good, if the tread is wearing evenly on all tires, why change?

ST tires = 3 to 5 years.
LT tires can be from 7 years to 10 years.....all depending on brand.

Take pics of all the tires and post them here so people can take a look at the sidewalls and thread pattern.

Then maybe some can give you good responses.

Taking rig to a tire dealer would help also.

Personally....would never even consider that long.

Have you ever blown a tire on your travel trailer on a ninety degree day when you are ninety miles from the nearest tire store? Have you ever paid to repair the damage that a blown tire caused? Feeling lucky? Run then until they blow. They will let you know when you waited too long.

I hate spending money on tires.

"Experts" say at least every five years. I say every four. It's LESS expensive to replace trailer tires than blow one out AND damage the trailer. Tom is right.

Had a GY G614s blow out......$3500 damage/costs plus repair time in shop

And it was only 3 1/2 yrs old!!

I'd rather spend money on tires VS the damage, frustration, interruption of trip and repair time.

If you plan on some long trips, I think going on 7 yr tires is a risk that most would not be comfortable with. I do think many things enter in, such as stored out of sunlight, parked on a good surface for extended tire life, is there a good margin of max tire wt, compared to trailer loaded wt. You know how they were used and stored, so you need to decide the risk factor.

Im with Old Biscuit. I'd rather spend money on tires than have all the a$$pain that a blown tire will cause.

I am asking my self the same question. How long to leave a set of tires. I am 5 years into a set of H rated commercial 17.5 inch rubber and am planning on leaving them on for 2 more season's. Due to family health and work issues camping has been very limited last 18 month's so mileage has been very limited but reliable lifespan of my tires is beginning to also be on my mind.
After having a major truck failure on the road last fall and getting stranded with a major failure is not all that fun of a part of the RV'ing adventure that I want to do very often.
