I have two Ford V-10 pickups, an '03 with 250K on it and an '00 with 325K on it. We run them pretty heavy - like 9500# all day long. I towed with the 00 quite a bit and continue to tow with the '03. Truck and trailer puts the CVWR right at factory max (they are both SRW).
The '00 blew out a spark plug at about 100K miles - $600 to repair and it's been fine since. I'm told that a change in design was implemented in '02 or '03 and I've not had the problem with the '03.
The '00 had some front end components replaced at 300K and an 02 sensor replaced about the same time. The '03 got a new A/C compressor last month and an "Idle air controller" or some such ($100) replaced a few years back. The driver's seats in both trucks have needed to be rebuilt and the one in the '00 needs to be rebuilt again.
That's it. Everything else (that isn't a maintenance item like brakes and tires) is original on both - even the serpentine belts. My 460 powered trucks were never like this and I'd avoid them.
Mileage empty was about 14 hwy before I added the tools and boxes. Mileage loaded is around 10 combined.
YMMV, but I'm very satisfied with the V-10 engine.
