Acme Tow Dolly

Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with using a ACME Tow Dolly with surge brakes? I am considering purchasing one for my Class B+ to tow about 4000 lbs.

Thank you

Ron

  • Acme Tow Dolly

I don't own one but, if I decide to buy a dolly I would seriously consider the Acme.

I would consider 4 down before a dolly, if it's practical for you.

I would look at this one, if I were to buy a new dolly. I have looked at the Acme videos, and I just don't care much for it.
IMO, the American Dolly has the "best bang for the buck" of any I have seen.
However, the old Demco Kar Kaddy that I bought used does the job just fine.
It might pay to check your local craigslist and see what is available. It is always possible to find a good buy on one of the "high-priced" dollys!
  • Let me ask the Question again..

    1. Has anyone had experience with the ACME Tow Dolly

    2. My car weighs 3600 lbs and the acme tow dolly weighs 400 lbs

    3 I have a 5000 lb hitch

    4. I am driving a Sprinter 6 CYL 188 hp Diesel MH

    5. I presently get 18+ MPG without towing

    6. If I decide to TOW what are the Pros and Cons

    7. My car is leased ..unable to flat tow

    Thanks

    Ron
  • We purchased the ACME Towdolly last year and love it. We are towing a Ford Escort and have no problems. The brakes work great and it is totally welded construction, no bolts to come loose.

    Great company. Great Product.
On the road now with it.
  • I have used my Acme for one season it seems to work just fine. Have not had any experience with other dolly's. The only thing I see on other models is there seems to be a somewhat hollowed out area, where the tires sit. I have found a method after some trail and error strapping the car down, but now have a system that seems to work for now. It is hard to get the car on the dolly perfectly (squared) lined up. But it seems that a hollowed out area would locate and possibly lock the tires in better. I do like how light the Acme is and is easy to move around and that it stands up in the garage against a wall and out of the weather.
