Adding a Bulb to a JK Tail Light - Bright Enough?

OK, we plan on flat towing our 2015 JK. I'm thought I had decided to add bulb to each tail light using something like the RM-155 Road Master kit. But then I read a couple of reviews that said the tail light was not very bright due to where you had to mount the bulb. Anyone use that method? Are the tail lights sufficiently bright?

Thanks for any help,
BradW
  • Thanks both of you for the suggestion. I did not know Hopkins made a kit like that. I have always had good luck with Hopkins stuff. I just found this good review on Amazon for exactly my vehicle:

Perfect "plug & play" installation! If you can't install this unit yourself you probably shouldn't be towing. Roadmaster could take a page out of Hopkins playbook and build a unit like this. Instead they sell you a more expensive package with a handful of loose diodes and expect you to do a lot of wire splicing. Also, Roadmaster says you may need to add a brake light relay with their system. That was NOT necessary for my installation. Great product.

    Thanks again,

  • Brad,
Save yourself a ton of time, money and frustration. Go buy this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-56200-Simple-Vehicle-Wiring/dp/B009SIO9ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489552222&sr=8-1&keywords=Hopkins+56200

It's a plug and play harness for your '15 JK. We and many, many others on here have installed that kit and it works flawlessly. It utilizes your stock tail lights, brake and turn lights. When those are used, the bulbs for them are mounted directly in front of the reflectors that are built into the tail light housing. That's the best and most safest way to do what you want to do. It's a piece of cake to install. Any questions about, PM me and I'd be glad to help.

We've been running that kit in our '15 JKUR for about 8 months now and it's great.
