All windows open in covered storage?

Are there any issues with leaving windows open, including the top vent when a rig is in covered storage (i.e. under a pole barn with side walls, which keeps rain from blowing in.) With the screens on the windows, insects shouldn't be a problem, and it should keep humidity on the inside from becoming an issue or causing damage.

The neighbor stored his 5th wheel in a shed and forgot to close a window by accident. A raccoon found the open window , moved in, and trashed the nice new 5th wheel. She even had babies while living in it.:E

I say leave them closed.

For the long winter indoor hibernation everything is closed. Mothballs wrapped in drier sheets are scattered all over inside. Six months later the odour of them is still enough to keep any critters that might consider our 5er a new home out of it. This method has worked for 10 years. Nothing has ever moved in.

Have always installed roof vent covers for last 15-20 years. Keep the roof open 24/7/365 even when underway. We live in a very rainy climate. I donโ€™t deal with humidity issues inside TT anymore. The roof covers keep out the rain too.

I have both vent covers and a pole barn. I keep my vents open 24/7/365, but nothing else. I even did that before I got the pole barn, but I always had the vent covers.

YUP!
Rodents, raccoons, etc will come right in roof vents and the screen on windows. All will come thru screens in a nanno second to take up housekeeping IN your RV.

Not to mention the thieves don't have to break a window to get in and possible get caught with the noise. You can slice a screen and no one will hear it.
Heck if they were RV savvy they'd know all you have to do is slide an RV screen open. :W

And like mentioned above. Leave all the windows open and your RV takes on the same humidity as outside.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

THIS.

I think your "solution" is worse than the problem......in most cases. There should be enough air "leaks" present to keep the air from becoming really stale.

Leave it closed for 30 days and see what happens.

I have mine in a closed carport but use a small dehumidifier inside. its about 16" tall and keeps the trailer nice and dry inside. before it would want to sweat inside due to rapid temp changes we get here. if you have power this really works good. never any damp or musty smell and no moisture.

I think it depends on where you live. I store mine under cover and keep it sealed up. It stays clean and drier than if we leave it open. I can see the difference because the inside walls aren't damp with dew when it stays closed and no one is using it.

Would it help if I left the roof vent open, and taped a foam filter over an opened window with masking tape? It will look a bit janky, but this would deal with any dust issues, and nobody is going to be seeing it unless they go to the backside of the pole barn.

Last year, I cracked a window open about a half-inch, and left the top vent open, and it made a world of difference.

You'll get lots of dust in there requiring a lot of cleaning.

Crack open a window at each end of the RV, and crack open any ceiling vents, and you will have no moisture problems.

Why would you want all the dust to come in? We just keep open our ceiling vents and have little dust. We store outdoors.

Unless there is a source of humidity inside the RV, it will always be close to or the same as the humidity in the barn whether the windows are open or not.

I keep my vents cracked and one window open a couple of inches.

If the building is clean and well enclosed it will probably not be an issue. Sometimes dust can be an issue in pole structures.
