As of 4:45 p.m. Monday, the fire burning near the Lost Park Wilderness area in Park County had grown to 5 acres.
Park County Undersheriff Monte Gore said firefighters and equipment from the Jefferson-Como Fire Protection District, the Bailey-based Platte Canyon Fire Protection District, the Fairplay-based North-West Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service were either en route or on scene.
Gore said deputies from the Park County Sheriffโs Office were also on scene.
The fire was first reported on Topaz Mountain, 10 miles due south of Shawnee, but Gore said Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener radioed in an updated location of the fire.
The fire is burning in the Ratcliff Gulch area, about five miles southeast of Jefferson.
Gore said he believes the fire is being called the Lost Park fire.
Kevin Copeland, a broker at Jefferson Real Estate in Jefferson, said smoke wasnโt visible from Jefferson, but heโs heard people say the smoke is visible from Como.
โThe mountains are too high and blocking it from being seen,โ he said.
Copeland said heโs been listening to the police and fire scanner to get his updates. As of 4 p.m. Monday, he hadnโt heard any indication of the size of the fire.
