awning

Might need to replace my awning this year. If the hardware is good can you just replace the awning? Has anyone ever done this, and how difficult is it?
  • I will add to this. if you don't feel comfortable replacing it yourself, hire it done. I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing, than to do it and screw up and hurt someone helping me
  • X2 on ToughTops and watching the youtube videos. We found it easy to do with 3 people but could be done with 2. Regard the spring and the horror stories about it because it can get wild. It seems the biggest problem is trying to catch the spinning vise grips if you let go. Also, the manuals have charts with the number of turns to make but we found them to be more than needed. The chart called for 13 turns on mine but we only did 7 or 8 and it has worked great. I'm sure trying to get the extra turns could have made it harder and more dangerous.

    Good luck and be careful.
  • I did mine on two different trailers.
It's not hard at all but it pays to watch the Youtube videos, take notes and make sure you don't miss any steps.
  • I found it quite easy. Pulled out the lawn chair and watch the dealer. Yes the material can be done separate.
  • It ain't rocket science, but it can be very dangerous rewinding the springs. Be sure you know what you are doing before you begin. Usually at least a two peson endeavor.
  • Search this forum for "awning replacement". You will fine LOTs of threads and comments. Meanwhile, try this link, you will find it in many threads also.
