Best WDH

Question

Good evening. Now that I am considering buying a TT, I wanted to get thoughts on weight distributing hitches. Basically what is the best option. I want integrated sway control and something that is appropriate for my tongue weight limit (720lbs). I know you buy by tongue weight, but am unsure of which version to get; i.e. some have 800 and 1000lb versions...do I get an 800lbs version or 1000lbs to provide some breathing room (if that is even needed).

I'm assuming I need a shank...

Models I am considering are:

- 90-00-1000 or 90-00-1069 Equal-i-zer hitch without/with a pre-installed ball offers a 1,000 lb. maximum tongue weight and a 10,000 lb. maximum trailer weight

- Reese Strait-Line® 800 lbs. Trunnion Bar 66073 (includes #66021 & #26002)

- Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distributing Kit w/Shank, Built In Friction Sway Control & Hardware, 10,000 lbs. (GTW), 1,000 lbs. (TW)

Thoughts?

If you go to page E-3 in the Reese catalog, you will get a very confusing answer.  Using their figures, anything from 800 to 1400 will be right.  Reese was a good company before they sent much off-shore and now can't even print a decent catalog.

You don’t buy based on tongue weight limit. You buy based on a number of maximum weights and hopefully well below them. Towing at max anything isn’t fun. IF your max tongue weight is 720 pounds, that number limits your MAX trailer weight to about 6000 pounds. 12% tongue weight. Again, don’t go max.

Dry tongue weight of 720 will likely be more like 850-1000 lbs (could even be more) when loaded, depending on how it's loaded and especially where and how full the water tanks are. Those dry weights tend to not include LP, battery, or options, btw.

The Equal-i-zer worked well for me. I set it up myself, and I've read that setup is easier than for a Reese. No holes to drill, for one thing. There's a reason the Equal-i-zer hitches have been in use for a long time... they work.

A clarification...I did all the calculations all ready and plan on a full loaded TT weight of not more than 6,000.  The dry weight is 4,760.
