Bicycling On Beach Sand Or Snow?

95% or our camping is done at a beach campground about 20 miles from home. We are there very often from April-Halloween and we still commute to work from there. We are always looking for fun new things to do when camping and last year I bought two kayaks. This year my brother is building a cornhole game and I bought a fat tire bicycle or "fat bike." "What is a fat bike?" you might ask. Basically, a fat bike is a basic mountain bike that can accept MUCH wider tires. My fat bike has 4" wide tires where some fat bikes can accept 4.8" tires. You simply run the tires at 4-8 psi and you can actually pedal on the beach. It's a pretty cool feeling.

Here's a shot of my fat bike tire compared to my mountain bike tire. They are both the same diameter at 26".

First shot of the assembled bike.

Now for some fat biking on the beach!

I packed some lunch the night before and hit the beach after work.

This thing rolls very good and much better then you would think. I find that it's best to go about 2 hours after high tide because then you can ride over the smooth sand that was left behind by the high tide.

This bike can also be used in snowy conditions with great results. It you like to mountain bike in the trails then this bike can handle that too. I love this thing and it's definitely a head turner when I'm pedaling on the beach because most folks haven't seen one.
