A new product uses dung beetles to consume waste in the black tank.

http://www.truckcampermagazine.com/news/besttank-industries-announces-black-tank-beetles/

I was involved in the beta testing during my trip to Florida last month, and it worked out very well.

marine by choice,
I know, and expect many others know, that dung beetles are real. Read the entire sentence "black tank dung beetles" for cleaning out your RV tank -- that's the part that's not real. Just enough "real" in it to make it semi-credible.

Remember a few years ago when the government was sending out checks for 'stimulus money'. There was a news story on April 1 of that year saying the government was concerned people would simply pay off debt (not the intention) instead of increasing consumer spending (the intended result). So, said the story, the IRS used your tax return and demographics to determine the kind of goods you would most likely spend the check on, spent your money for you and sent you the goods. They were interviewing a couple in Phoenix AZ who has just received an air conditioner instead of a stimulus check.

The story was funny. The outraged backlash from the people believing the story was even more entertaining. ๐Ÿ™‚

You still have to drain and flush the tank a couple times a year. If you don't the dead beetle's little scuba tanks start to clog things up.

BEATLES

DUNG BEETLE

I don't think John, Paul, George or Ringo would have appreciate
being called "black tank beatles". :B:W:B

As a drummer, I think its fair to put Ringo in the black tank category...

RE: The above post...After all, today is April Fools day.

PS: How does one tell the wife that there'll be several hundred beetles crawling within the black tank when she sits down on the toilet?

Ya, right!! LOL

They work great when you have the dreaded pyramid of dung.

While many might think dung beetles are a joke, they actually ARE real and serve a very useful service in the livestock world. Here is a Wikipedia link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dung_beetle

You can always roost them after you are done using them... No need to waste editable food...

When you buy a sealed bag full of them I keep thinking how do they stay alive so long???

I'm guessing they eat each other to stay alive and the last one wins... It will be a very hugh dung beetle then perhaps...

Added note: I do remember my MOM buying a bag of LADYBUGs from somewhere when I was a kid (way back then) back in my Illinois youth days... When she opened up the bag they came out in hand fulls at a time. This was for her garden back then...

Wow- that got me!

I check the TCM articles very quickly without digesting the contents superficially in the morning while sipping coffee and getting the day started. I then will read more in-depth during my lunch break. Never had the slightest inkling this was a prank let alone what today is.

Good one TCM!

The Black Tank Beetles are not nearly as cool as the Tiger Direct home Nuclear Power Plant from several years ago. ๐Ÿ™‚

Great product... but you would still have to empty the beetles' black tank when they poop out your poop. Sounds like it needs a little more R&D :)!
