Boring Doghouse cover in 1997 E350

Boring and useless doghouse cover! One deep well, one cup slot, a slot that everything slides out of and an ash(change) tray. I've seen things in pictures that go over these, but I can't seem to find anything online. I've seen vinyl with lots of elastic pockets, I've seen wood ones with better cup holders up top...even a small cabinet for the front. Anyone have any idea where I can find something like this?

Found this on eBay, but can't tell if would fit.
  • I purchased a newer dognouse cover (post-2000 model) from an RV surplus store. You may also be able to find them at junk yards.

Anyway, the price was less than $100 as I recall. Go to an RV dealer and look at the doghouse in current E-model Fords. If you like that, you can just unlatch the current one and replace with the newer cover. The early 2000 covers seem to interchange with the prior models.

This dealer advertises as being the largest surplus RV source: Colaw Salvage

I have not used this source but it will be a starting point.
  • There are a few different factory doghouse covers from Ford over the years, as Jim alludes to, and as I understand it they are interchangeable. You can remove yours by manipulating the latch tab thingy at the bottom and then lifting it off.

Anyhow, some (I would say all) of the other designs appear much more functional than the silly one that you (and unfortunately I) currently have, and you can find used ones on ebay or presumably in junkyards for quite moderate prices. Bear in mind that Ford has sold a whole bunch of E-series vans over these years, so there's no need to look specifically for RV parts.

Of course, if you want wood or leather or something more luxurious than gray plastic, you'll have to look for aftermarket stuff and/or see about fabricating something yourself.
