Bugs in the RV

I have been restoring my 89 Southwind and I am finding Wasp and Mud Dauber nest every where. When I first started my A/Cs I had wasp nest flying every where. I have found Wasp nest and mud dauber in every part of the RV. The latest is the furnace. I had to replace the motor on the furnace and heard a thumping noise inside the heat exchanger. Opened it up and am I glad, the burner was covered with mud. So much so if it had lit it may have caught the furnace on fire. Is there any way to block wasp and daubers from getting into the A/C and furnace without blocking the air flow?

Thanks

Buster
  • Thanks for the advice. Was at CW yesterday and bought a screen for the Furnace. Found some screen at Lowes for house vents. For what it is it is over priced. I will use to for the Frig, A/C and hopefully the water heater. I have the older Coleman A/C that has large opening screen probably just to keep leaves out and will replace it with the new smaller screen. I will have to make it large to keep the air flow up through the condenser coil. Yes the smaller screen should have been something the factory should have done, but damage the parts means sales of replacement parts.

    Thanks

  • Camco screens for hot water heater and furnace. Find them at any camping store and even at walmart.

Why they don't put these on at the factory is beyond me.

For the fridge unit I just bought the same type screening from a hardware store and cut it to fit and taped it on the inside of the louvered vent cover.

Your air cond roof top unit should have a factory screen cover on the back of it. Check to see. I have seen them pulled off by going under tree branches and the owner doesn't even know it. Looked at a lot of used units where it was gone.
  • they have screens for the frig and for the water heater and the furnace. nothing for the air conditioner that I know of.
  • I have a screen 'guard' that fits over the outside furnace outlets. It was added by the dealer when I bought my rig. I'm sure camping world sells them.
