Buy Truck & your Trailer at same time

How many bought your truck and trailer at the same time

If you bought used did you get a better price from the buyer to take both units off their hands?

Thanks
  • Thanks all for your responses, I appreciate you taking the time.
  • When we bought the TT we had back in 2010, we bought the TT first and had the dealer tow it to the beach where we kept it in storage. We bought the truck several months later. Since we needed a truck anyways to pull a camper, we chose to do it in that order. Now we have neither. Traded the truck in on a brand new explorer this year and the TT in on a brand new Class C.
  • The only possible problem with buying your truck first is that the size of your truck might limit your choice of a RV (type, size or model). The size of your truck's engine, and towing capacities wil play a role in your RV selection.
  • We bought both at the same time, but from different dealers. What we've seen here is that when both are together there's less bargaining room. The argument is they've saved you "a lot of work prepping the truck" but I'd rather bargain separately to get the best price on both.
  • I don't see any combo's down here. The one's I see advertised usually have one that seems a bit high on the price. I haven't took notice but it may be like stated above, wanting to sell the trailer first if they separate them.

I ordered my truck to replace my 15 yr old K2500. I made sure to get the max capacity for a gasser in my configuration. Then I bought the 5er on a repo Ebay auction. It just happened to be a good brand, floor plan I liked, right at the max for my truck and the price was good.
  • I've seen a few 5ver/truck combo's for sale by owner in our area. Sometimes they sell separate but always wanting to sell trailer first for good reason. We seen a couple of real nice ones but they were just out of our $$$ reach.
  • We did extensive research on what we wanted (thank you fellow forum members) then bought a new truck in January in California and the 5th wheel in May in Texas. Research a lot, use the internet for dealers to bid against each other then plan accordingly and you won't be disappointed. Good luck.
  • We bought our 5ver and then it took another 7 mos. before we found the truck we wanted. We knew what we wanted it was just not a easy find. But we are extremely happy with what we have.
  • It always seemed to me there would be a lot more truck/RV combo packages for sale than there is. I would have went 5ver had I been able to buy that way. Most of the guys I knew who had truck/trailer combos really took good care of their equipment. So I would have felt more confident than buying separately. Plus there are tons of items one needs, that a combo package would already have. However, it does not seem to be the norm.
  • We bought our truck and trailer both new (year-end leftover on the truck) but from different dealers. The idea was to make sure we had enough truck to haul whatever trailer we got, and to make sure we stayed within our fixed budget for the total cost of both. And, after later adding a second A/C unit, we ended up spending every single dime we had socked away.
